I’m guessing that a lot of novice Windows Vista users don’t shut down their computers properly because of the default sleep function assigned to what looks like a shut down button accessed via the start menu. Little they know to follow through to the expanded menu to properly shut down rather than put the machine to sleep. I knew to do this, and it didn’t bother me that much but today got around to switching it to shut down. Here’s how to do it in case you don’t know.
It looks as though Windows 7 will describe the feature , as well as make it more straight forward for users to change via the start menu properties. However, I don’t understand why Microsoft don’t default the button to ‘shut down’ as standard.
